I gotta say, as much as I hate award shows, I actually found myself enjoying the BET Awards as I sat in the audience the other night. There were a couple of Hip Hop moments (which I'll get to), but I was really moved by the show of unity all night long...Highlights...The new "Usher", Chris Brown accepted an award and actually brought the competition (Ne-yo) on stage and gave him props. Kanye West, who never ever sounds humble, actually gave props to Busta Rhymes for his stellar performance of "Touch it" and "I Love My Chick", with Lloyd Banks, Rah Digga, Papoose and others. Shawna was on the red carpet giving props to other female rappers. Bow Wow and Romeo were in the house with no drama. There was definitely a lot of love in the air. Fantasia stuck her tongue down Jamie Foxx's throat and Jay smacked Beyonce's a*s. What else can you ask for in a show?
Puffy needs to cut out all the dance moves. They're as old as his stiff bones that just don't move like they used to. The sound and effects malfunctioned during his set as well.
But, I don't want to highlight the negative. I watched the tape of the performance when I got home, and it was good to see Chamillionaire do his thing earlier at the pre-show affair. The highlight of the night though would have to be Eminem finally returning to the spotlight and joining Busta on stage for Touch It. It was good to see him doing what he does best, after the death of Proof.
